Question: My 15 and a half year old son is complaining of difficulty swallowing. He feels like food and liquid are hard to get around the area at the level of his adam's apple or thyroid. He sometimes feels like he is being choked. He does have swollen lymph glands and these have been swallowed for 2 years and the left side of his neck is slightly swollen in comparison to the right side.

Brief Answer:
I suggest he sees an ENT specialist!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I have reviewed this information fully. It is suggestive of hypertrophied tonsils. Their location make them likely to serve as obstruction if swollen. The presence of lymph nodes also support the possibility of an ongoing chronic infection which can cause the tonsils to swell.

I recommend that he sees an ENT specialist for review and treatment.

I hope this helps and guides. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
