What Causes Swelling And Yellow Patches On Tongue?
Question: Hi, I have had a dry sore tongue with yellow coverage (at rear) for near 6 months now. I have tried oral anti fungals (nyastatin and daktarin) 3 months ago and also tried oral fluconazole. None of these had any effect. I practice good oral hygiene, tongue scraper etc. I have used probiotics and eat a clean vegetable and chicken (no dairy, sugar, gluten), not soft foods. The tongue is sticky and dry feeling at the back but the soreness/stinging is concentrated at the front. I do not mouth breath or snore at night. The issue started when I took oral antibiotics called phenoxymethylpenicillin for 7 days. The tongue does not appear hairy, but does have some elongated vertical growths in yellow areas.
Brief Answer:
Most probably due to the side effect of phenoxymethyl penicillin
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your query; and it suggests that white or yellowish patches over the tongue and swollen tongue most probably may be due the side effect of phenoxymethyl penicillin.
In this condition, I personally suggest diluted hydrogen peroxide and hexidine mouth gargles twice a day if you do not have.
After 7 days if the condition persist then go for the scraping of tongue for culture of bacteria and fungi with sensitivity test for antibiotic and anti fungal and the further treatment according to test result.

Thank you. I have had a culture test and it came back negative but did show very mild candida detected. I have tried antifungals but no change. Tongue scraping makes no difference also.'
In addition to the tongue, after I took antibiotics i developed very dry and often blocked nose, and pressure in my forehead. My face sometimes feels like i am bending over but i am just sitting. I will attach a picture of my mouth.
