What Causes Swelling In Right Knee With Mild Pain Post An Injury?

Question: Recently have had a swollen right knee with mild pain. It has reduced in swelling dramatically but is still swollen. As of yesterday my left elbow is extremely swollen and extremely painful, more than my knee was. And I also feel as though I have the flu. I have not had a major injury to either knee or elbow, but I am in construction with minor bumps and bruises. I am 43 and in good health. On occasion I have had groin pain I was thinking could have been associated with a muscle as it comes with mild pain no swelling. Then disappears for quite some time. ??? Yes I know I should probably go to the doctor. Have not had insurance for a long time. I recently went in for a physical for DOT health certificate and was noted I may be in the early stages of hypertension.
Brief Answer:
Probably Rheumatoid arthritis!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this pain. I have reviewed your symptoms and these are suggestive of rheumatoid arthritis. This is an autoimmune disease and affects joints causing swelling. They often regress and move to other joints only to recur later. I will suggest that you follow up with doctors for evaluation, confirmation of diagnosis and treatment as this left untreated will eventually destroy the joints. Let me know what your take is and what the decision is.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask of more information and clarifications if need be.

Is this a hereditary issue as there is no history in my family. Have not had any other occurrences up until about two weeks ago, in other words is RA sudden onset? or takes some time to develop?
Also did not have flu like symptoms when my knee was problematic.
thanks for following up, real professional after you offered to

Brief Answer:
IT is not hereditary!!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
A family history of RA increases your risk but it is not a hereditary condition. It develops over a while and rarely an acute occurrence. This often has periods of relapse and remission. For now, Tylenol and Ibuprofen would help us control the pain and swelling while we investigate and make sure that we get the exact diagnosis and treat accordingly.
I wish you well and keep me posted.
