What Causes Swelling In The Lateral Side Of The Left Ankle?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Aug 2017
Question: I have started noticing a very slight swelling in my left ankle lately....for no apparent reason. I have recently been having pretty serious pain in both of my feet, that sometimes feels like someone has beat the bottom of my feet with a hammer. After I walk a bit, the pain starts to subside.

Brief Answer:
could be plantar fascitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
There are two issues- Swelling on the lateral side of left ankle which could be a soft tissue swelling or may be a tendinitis, you have to get it examined by an Orthopedic Surgeon and may require a MRI.
Second is pain in the heels- which is a very common problem called plantar fasciitis. For this I suggest pain killers , hot fomentation , local application of analgesic gel and silicone heel pads, Continue this for 2-3 weeks and if not relieved , go for a X ray both heels Lateral view. It might require local steroid injection.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
