default
Posted on Mon, 20 Oct 2014
Question: Hi, I was eating out and noticed after my meal that between the back of my soft palate and throat felt swollen..feels like a lump when a swollow and a dull mild discomfort when at rest. Slightly more painful when swollowing. This have never happened after eating shellfish. It wasnt immediate took over an hour. I had raw oysters to start then a crab cake. If its an allergic rxn how long will it feel like this? I am on augmentin for a sinus infection 5th day. Had two drinks with vodka which i know i shouldnt.

Brief Answer:
hypersensitive reaction to your food

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

I see similar cases amongst young people who visit my clinic.I would like to ask few more details with your palate swelling like itching, cough or wheeze.

With your details, it appears to be a hypersensitive reaction to your food stuffs.

I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon and get detailed ent examination to rule out palate swelling extent and other organs involvement. If necessary, general physical examination to see other symptoms, like rashes for evaluation of hypersensitive reaction.

you need antihistamines, antacids, if necessary steroids. Its dose and strength will be decided by your treating Doctor.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
