Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms XXXXXXX
Tender swelling in the submandibular region (below the jaw) without any oral pathology is more likely to be inflamed Submandibular Salivary gland. Sometimes it's difficult distinguishing it from inflamed lymph node. Examination will help the diagnosis.
The principle of treatment is almost similar
1. Hot water fomentation : local application of towel soaked in hot water will reduce the pain and inflammation
2. Anti-inflammatory: Tablet Ibuprofen 800 mg thrice daily will be beneficial
3 . Antibiotic; Ciprifloxacin 500 mg twice daily for 7 days.
4. Chewing; chewing sugar cube with 2 to 3 drops of fresh lemon juice added will be beneficial. It will stimulate secretion of saliva and will help in drainage of inflamed salivary gland.
Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
Take care
