Question: on the underside of my left arm, the vein close to the surface is slightly swollen and hard to the touch. When I raise my arm it is a little uncomfortable and the vein is tender to the touch. Is my vein blocked and is it serious?
Brief Answer:
Inflammation of the vein may be a cause
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query carefully and it looks to be Inflammation of vein that is thrombophlebitis.
Please tell me do you have-
1. Diabetes or any other chronic disease and what kind of medicine are you on?
2. Did you have Intravenous injection in recent past?
For now you may have Ice fomentation, Tab.Ibuprofen and trypsin/chymotrypsin (prescription only) to reduce pain and swelling along with local application of Thrombophob ointment.
Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

I am on Lotrel for high blood pressure. Not diabetic, though I have two sisters who are. I take aspirin daily. No injections recently. I did have an impact near the site last week playing sports, but at the time the vein was normal. I have had some numbness in that arm after sleeping on it lately as well.
Brief Answer:
Seems to be non serious condition
Detailed Answer:
Hi
It's good to see you
After going through the whole discussion it could be secondary to trauma and it is not a serious condition but observation is required. Nothing more is required as you are already taking aspirin along with the measure as advised earlier.
A limb getting numb after sleeping on them is a normal condition and we all have the experience of it.
Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query or you may please close the present discussion.
