What Causes Tenderness In Thumb Post Treatment For Toenail Fungal Infection?
Question: I have been treated for the past 3 months for toenail fungus involving the large toenail on one foot. I take Lamisil and was told not to expect a 100% disappearance of the fungus and may need to renew my RX. Apart from that, I have a black area under my right (only) thumbnail. When I was at my Dermatologists office 3 months ago it was a mere speck or two. Now it covers 1/3 of the nail. Unlike my toe which has no pain, my thumb is tender when I apply any pressure. Do you think this is also fungus but another type? I am asking because my next appointment locally isn't until 9/15/15.

Detailed Answer:
thanks for using our service. I reviewed your question in detail and will give you my advice. You can have fungus in your thumb too and it takes 12 weeks for the new nail to replace the old one. Lamisil should help this nail too. The nail fungus is very similar and the treatment is the same, You can wash the hands with apple vinegar and water every day to help cleaning of nails with fungus. Medication is for 12-16 weeks.
I hope that my advise has been helpful.
