What Causes Throat Pain And Phlegm In Throat After Vocal Cord Paralysis?
Question: Hello,
Just to start off I have made an appointment with my ENT so I am being proactive about this, but my appointment isn't for a few weeks. A few months back I had surgery on my left vocal chord to help with vocal cord paralysis due to complications at birth. About 3 weeks ago, my throat started hurting, around where my surgery was. I've had constant phlegm in my throat and am having to clear my throat EVERY minute of the day. My voice is super hoarse, my throat is dry and scratchy but plagued with phlegm. I have found no relief! Advil, ibuprofen, nyquil, allergy medicine, cough drops, cough syrup, lemon and honey tea, coconut oil, gargling salt water everything!! What could be causing this violent attack on my throat. It's affecting my quality of life big time because I can barely speak, and I have 2 babies that need me to be able to speak to them. What can I do until my appointment which isn't for about 3-4 weeks! I'm desperate!!!

Brief Answer:
oral steroids will be helpful
Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, you might be having chronic laryngitis with GERD.
In my opinion, oral steroids with tapering dose for 10 days +anti histamine tablets for phlegm would be helpful.
For reflux disease, proton pump inhibitors + prokinetics drug for 2 weeks will be helpful.
If symptoms persists, then please consult with your doctor and get evaluated. Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.
