Hi i am Dr Ahmed Aly
thanks for using HealthcareMagic site ,
I had gone through your question and understand your concerns ..
It could be a kind of arthritis if you had no previous injuries or trauma . arthritis could be rheumatic or gouty arthritis . both kinds can cause such throbbing pain.
Ibuprofen tabs is fine as it is a NSAIDS ( non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs ) which help in decreasing your pain and inflammation if you have swelling , hot gentle massaging with topical anti-inflammatory gels and slabbing it or compression will help immobilizing your toe joints and thus relieving pain .
You could send me a picture to help me give you an exact diagnosis and treatment if your pain persists .
Such throbbing pain especially in the toe is very commonly due to gout where you will have increased SUA ( serum uric acid ). when uric acid levels increases crystals are precipitated between joint cartilages and causing erosion and more friction and more pain .
Gouty arthritis is mainly treated by colchicine to decrease pain , ibuprofen to decrease inflammation , allopurinol to reduce your body uric acid production and probenicid to help in its elimination from your body , adjust your meals ,avoid alcohol , smoking and avoid obesity and you will be fine .
