What Causes Tightness On The Side Of Neck Along With Swelling?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, My neck on the right side feels tight, I can move it and everything, it just has a tight feeling. I gave it a good rug one night and there was sore bits and the next day it swelled up a bit where the really sore bit was to rub but went down. Ive tire anti-inflammatory tablets and a cream, they seem to work but i don't take/put on consistently and now my neck feels tight. What should i be doing? and how long should I put the cream on for or take the tablets for? How long should it take to heal? Im thinking its an injury from when I put my dogs bed in her kennel as Im not sure what I did but it hurt my neck and the tightness is on the same side i hurt. It only hurt for at least 1 minute then felt fine

Brief Answer:
You probably has muscle pull (spasm).

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Most probably you have got pulled muscle in your neck . Treatment of it is rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen for pain relief. Muscle relaxant such as thiocholchoside is helpful. You should avoid pillow during resting hours and sleep. Rubbing and cream application is not advisable . Vitamin B and C help in recovery. It may take nearly 10-15 days to recover. You can take treatment for that duration. You can further investigate by MRI of cervical spine.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
You can take muscle relaxant.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
You are not having pain but there is swelling. Ibuprofen is also anti inflammatory so you can take it and if there is no swelling also then you can take only muscle relaxant for nearly one week. Rest already discussed.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
