Brief Answer:
No need to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

The numbness and tingling in body could occur due to a number of reasons and we will go to these reasons one by one-

- First possibility that can cause such symptoms is some nutritional deficiency. Low iron levels result in low haemoglobin and anaemia. Anaemia can present with numbness and tingling sensation. Low vitamin B12 is also other possibility. It is one of common reason that can present with such symptoms. I would advise you to get your Vitamin B12, Haemoglobin levels checked to rule out these condition.

- One possibility for such symptoms is some anxiety disorder. Tingling and numbness is common in anxiety but other symptoms like restlessness, palpitations, tremors, sweating etc symptoms are also seen. I would like to know if you are having such symptoms?

- Although difficult to diagnose due to these symptoms alone but still rare possibility is some seizure discharge. But for this detailed history is required to make diagnosis. If you also suffered abnormal movements of body, frothing along with these symptoms. If the numbness and tingling is only symptom then there is no need to worry.

Most likely such symptoms occurred either due to anxiety or low Vitamin B12 levels which are two main causes of such symptoms. As per my opinion there is no need to worry. Just decrease intake of coffee, tea, alcohol. Start taking vitamin b12, iron supplements. For mild anxiety you can do yoga or relaxation exercises which will result in improvement of symptoms.

If symptoms reoccurs then consult your doctor for management of anxiety.

Hope I cleared your doubts, if you have more doubts you can ask again.

THIS BELOW WAS MY POST OVER A WEEK AGO PLEASE GO THROUGH TO HAVE SOME IDEA ON WHAT IS GOING ON. I’M GLAD THAT YOU MENTIONED ANXIETY AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR 3MONTHS NOW. KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAD ANOTHER BLOOD TEST THAT CAME OUT NEGATIVE FEW DAYS AGO.

I’m a 20 year old heterosexual male, live in the US. I was in XXXXXXX during the summer for a vacation where I had unprotected insertive fellatio with a sex worker and protected vaginal for 2-3 secs. I didn’t know that STDs could be transmitted through Oral sex. I didn’t have any symptoms until 7weeks after the incident. I started with a boil-like bump in groin which I discovered while taking a shower. It was painful and had some whitish pus in it (about 1cm). I drained it quickly the whitish pus came out with some blood. 2days later, while shaving I discovered another in my left armpit, I tried draining it but it was very painful. The next day 2 more appeared under the same arm. I drained them after 5-6 days. Ok, I thought it was over but after a day 4 more pop out, this time with one bigger than the other 3. Then started to get worried and BOOM! STDs came to my mind. I went straight to the internet to google some my symptoms, that was the worst mistake of my life. I read a lot about HIV and became very worried. I couldn’t sleep later that night, the following day I woke up with headache, nausea, dry mouth, loss of appetite, indigestion with excessive gas, muscle and joint pain but there was no fever and night sweats. Then I convinced myself that I had contracted HIV. I became very paranoid, anxious and had suicidal thoughts. Had that for 2days and decided to see Doctor. I was diagnosed with “Axilla Abscess” and was given antibiotics for bacterial infection, however, I didn’t tell him about my exposure thinking that he’d order HIV test which I was scared of. After a week, all the abscesses were gone except the largest one. It flattened (the skin over it peeled off became very painful when in contact with cloth or underarm and it didn’t drain pus though it seemed to contain it) a few days after my medication was over. Then I regained my strength and recover my mental health after talking to an expert online.

9-10 days later, I came down with a dry and itchy throat although it was beginning of dry winter here and I sleep with my windows opened. It became more serious, feeling of something being stuck in there, painful lower jaw, dry mouth, tooth and ear ache, stiff neck and morning headaches. I decided to use the in Home-HIV1/2 test kit after 85days of exposure, it turned out Neg-. To my surprised all my symptoms disappeared after having that result and my severe anxiety was gone. The test is 99.9% accurate if taken outside the window period (12weeks). Ok everything was good for a while not until I read the test could have a false positive and negative. I became paranoid, back to square one. I didn’t sleep that night, next morning I woke up with headache, diarrhea more like indigestion my stomach was filled with gas, loss of appetite and dry mouth. The next day still had the feeling of something being stuck in my throat, this time with a symptom and it is tingling/tickling of muscles including feet, arms, shoulder, buttocks. I took another Oraquick in Home HIV test at 104days. Again Negative. I called AID helpline explained my case and they said I’m conclusively Neg, my risk was low and I took two test outside the window period I was relieved for a week then I read about people testing positive after 6months after testing negative several times. This had me concerned up till now. So I built up the courage and went to a planned parenthood. They tested me using Oraquick fingerstick blood test, the result was Neg. Even today, I’m still concerned about HIV, I dream about it everything when ever I sleep, I wake in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep again, I have this burning sensation on my tongue and still have the muscle tingling that seems to come and go. I still have the uncomfortable feeling in my throat.

Now that all symptoms are gone what is left is headache and the tingling sensation. I still have sleeping difficulties. I woke even last even breathing heavily, like someone was trying to suffocate me. Do you think I’m conlusively HIV negative? And do you think I there was at risk in what I mentioned if she was HIV+?

The test buds on my tongue appeared to inflamed. Thank I appreciate your response.

Brief Answer:
Anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello again

I have read your problem in detail and I can understand your concern.

Due to access of a lot of information about HIV and its infectivity you have developed fear of infection. In most cases after infection HIV start coming positive in about 3 months and in rarest of rare cases it can extend further. The symptoms you mentioned get relieved on reassurance by negative test or by a health official. This itself proves that you have developed HEALTH ANXIETY.

Health anxiety or hypochondriasis is severe anxiety of having some serious illness, and despite multiple reassurances individuals have fear that they will contract illness.

Secondly just to reassure you, you have tested negative with a highly sensitive (99.9%) test two times, I wouldn't be worried about HIV infections further. There is no need to fear. I can assure you certainly that you have not contracted HIV.

I will recommend you to exercise daily, practice yoga and meditation. This will help in increasing self confidence and you will feel better.

Don't think about this thing again and again as this will increase stress only.

Thanks, hope I reassured you, still have more doubts you can ask again.

Wish you a good health.

Hi Doc, sorry to border you again. Just wanna give you an update. I’m keeping it cool and the tingling especially around the is gone except I have a painful feeling in feet and finger/hand joints. It’s a painful feeling that last for few secs. I have this vibration feeling in feet. I’m not worried anymore but I have to admit that I’m getting addicted to testing. I ordered another Oraquick in home HIV test yesterday but I won’t take the test as I have had many negative tests.

Brief Answer:
Don't test again and again

Detailed Answer:
Hello again, I apologise for late reply

The soreness of joints and vibrations are due to anticipatory health anxiety only. Please try to ignore these things, you are absolutely negative. You had multiple testings already and all came negative so there is no use to check same thing again and again.

Commonly used HIV tests have sensitivity of more than 99.9% so there is no doubt in the thing that you are negative. So please don't waste your precious money in test kits. They will no reassure you, only you can reassure yourself.

Thanks
