What Causes Tinnitus, Neck Pain And Severe Back Spasms While Suffering From Migraine?

Question: Today I had a really strange migraine. it affected only half of my face. There was a lot of pressure and ringing in my ears, back of the head and neck pain, along with the temples of my head simply pounding, as about 20. min. into after taking some otc migraine pills, it did not help and my face was feeling all tingly. I started to get light pain down my shoulder that was on the same side of the migraine and after about 10-15 min. Later the tingly numbing feeling went down to my hip, again all on the same side. it was difficult to walk for a little bit. the headache eventually faded away but the tingly numbing feeling I had felt in my hip did not go away till hours and hours later. What kind of migraine was this? I've never had such a thing happen before with such odd symptoms. I have had migraines before that only occurred on one side of the face but nothing quite like this.

Brief Answer:
It can be due to back muscle spasm

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, it seems less likely to be migraine causing such symptoms however a local muscle or back muscles stretch or spasms may trigger the migraine and the hip and shoulder pains simultaneously. However a detailed neurological examination and signs if menenigeal irritation alongwith fever charting may also be done once.

You can use muscle relaxants like orphenidrine or tizanidine alongwith analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen can be used. Replacement of B12, D3 and folic acid can also help as these defficiencies may also present with all the symptoms that you mentioned above. For long term prophylaxis for migraine, beta blockers or tryptans can be discussed with your primary doctor once the muscle issue resolves. A physiotherapist review and mild excercises may also help.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
