Brief Answer:
Could be due to UTI,

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your routine urine test has revealed trace of blood .

Though you had sex with your wife a day before when she was in her menstruation it is unlikely that your urine will get contaminated .

It is most likely to be due to UTI.

Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water .To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Hello thanks very much. The blood was detected while i was in the er suffering from a severe stomach virus. I also wondered if that can cause trace blood in urine? The reason I'm asking is I had bowel cancer 5 years ago and I also only have one kidney. So I am trying to reassure myself that this is not necessarily a sign of kidney cancer. I am going to the doctor too obviously.

Brief Answer:
This is unlikely to be cancer of the kidney.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up The cancer of the kidney always presents with gross hematuria and not trace .However you can get it ruled out by an ultrasound scanning and CT scan of the abdomen .

In the meanwhile contiue medications which I have suggested in my earlier reply .
Thanks and Regards.
