Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on Healthcaremagic.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar, a neurologist, here to answer your query.
Most common causes of symmetrical(means alike in both hands) hand tremors at the age of more than 50 years are-
1)Anxiety
2)Essential tremor
Essential tremors are mostly postural(not at rest) and kinetic(while doing something) and are known to be present in other family members(direct blood relation). It responds to medicines like propranolol.
Anxiety tremors may improve with reduced anxiety levels. Please do mental relaxation exercises and Yoga for the same.
Alcohol and some drugs can also cause tremors(Please mention if you take alcohol or on any medicines).
Plan of action - If you don't have drugs or alcohol intake history and if it does not improve with mental relaxation exercises/yoga, please consult your physician so that he can start you on medicines for essential tremor. PLEASE TAKE MEDICINES UNDER YOUR PHYSICIAN'S SUPERVISION ONLY.
Hope, I have answered your query. If you have follow-up queries, I shall be glad to answer. Else please close the thread-rate it and write a review.
