What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain On The Left Side?
Question: I have upper abdominal pain on the left side. This pain is concentrated to one spot but comes and goes. It hurts to bend over and sometimes I get crampy and some mild rib pain. I take a proton pump inhibitor already because my doc thought it could be gastritis.
Brief Answer:
Continue to take PPI
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Yes, your problem more likely seems to be due to gastritis. I agree with your doctor for the same. Please continue to take PPIs (proton pump inhibitors) for some more time, perhaps a week more.
Meanwhile, take healthy diet in the form of bland, non-spicy and non-fatty food. Drink plenty of fluids orally to prevent the gastritis.
Also, do deep breathing exercises to get rid of the rib pain. You can try topical analgesic gels like Diclofenac gel and see if it relieves the rib pain.
Avoid, taking oral pain killer tablets or analgesic medicines as these can worsen the gastritis.
With these measures, your symptoms should subside by the end of one week.
Get well soon.
