Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern, and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to radicular pain, caused by a cervical disk problem.

You feel pain in both arms or just in only one? Which one, left or right?

Does your pain worsen when you move that arm (rotate or lift it)? A shoulder joint disorder (like inflammation or chronic degeneration of the bones and ligaments) could mimic this symptomatology.

Do you have any other symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, or blood pressure changes during these episodes? A cardiac ischemia could be related to all these symptoms, but it is not typical for this disorder to cause just upper arm pain. So it is less probable for your symptoms to be cardiac related.

I recommend consulting with your GP for a careful physical examination, a resting ECG, a chest x ray study and a shoulder joint and cervical column x ray study.

Some blood lab tests would be necessary:

- complete blood count
- PCR, sedimentation rate (inflammation)
- kidney and liver function tests
- fasting glucose
- blood electrolytes( including calcium plasma levels)
- uric acid plasma levels (to exclude arthritis related to hyperuricemia)

Further tests, like a nerve conduction study of the upper limbs for possible nerve related pain, etc may be needed based on the above mentioned tests results.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask any other questions, whenever you need!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
