What Causes Upper Left Back Pain While Having GERD?
Cardiac or gastrointestinal issue, symptoms alone should not be relied upon
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
Gastrointestinal causes like GERD can present with chest pain and even headache. 5 percent of people presenting with GERD like symptoms may have a cardiac cause so it should always be a priority to rule out the cardiac cause.
Symptoms, alone should not be relied upon especially if the bursitis and GERD don't get better with conventional treatments like NSAIDs and PPIs or H 2 blockers.
An EKG can be done to look for any abnormality. If its normal then the GERD and bursitis can be treated with medication. Your doctor may also advise a stress test (Exercise tolerance test) to be more sure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
The normal EKGs show that a cardiac cause is unlikely.
The cervical and lumbar spine should be examined. Nerve root compression can also cause distribution of pain in such a manner. Its can be associated with degenerative changes in the spine. NSAIDs, muscle relaxants and physiotherapy can be advised for a period of two weeks. If there is no significant improvement then MRI and/or NCS (Nerve conduction studies) can be advised in consultation with your doctor.
