What Causes Vaginal Bleeding In A Post-menopausal Woman?

default
Posted on Wed, 13 Apr 2016
Question: I had also had full hysterectomy on 2001 leaving one ovary which has a small cyst. I had suffered endemetriosis and mt womb had never developed but stayed in two halves. About 6 weeks ago i had a freak bleed from my vagina which lasted 5 hours (regular trickling every 15 mins) it felt like a strong urge to urinate but from the vagina. Im not sexually active and this was a bit scary. The A &E sent me home as they said they couldnt admit me unless i was hemoraging! I have not had this since but no one can explain it. Can you?

Brief Answer:
These are alraming signs and endometrial cancer has to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back to HCM: Please note that bleeding in a postmenopausal woman has to be worked up for endometrial cancer with imaging and biopsy of your endometrium.

You obviously have a history that is concerning, the correct person I would visit with is you gynecologist.

There is just no replacement with the guessing games one will put you through.
I hope this help with giving you a direction in how to proceed.

Brief Answer:
What you have is your peritoneum left to biopsy

Detailed Answer:
What I was saying is in general, any postmenopausal woman who has bleeding has to be investigated with biopsies. You have one ovary that is left you also say, this could be a cause of concern, so specifically for you, you still need this investigated. UltraSound scanning would be the first place before any invasive testing, I hope this helps further clarify. Thanks

They have already CT scanned the ovary and it just has a small cyst but no cancer etc.

Brief Answer:
Who has specifically scanned your abdomen?

Detailed Answer:
1. Who is specifically working this bleeding up?
2. Did you see a Ob/Gyn for this bleeding yet?
3. CT is an imaging test, you need to have a vaginal exam by the right specialty
4. At the time of exam and with your history, then the right testing will be obtained/ordered
5. Pelvic and Vaginal US would be in order and upto tissue sampling if indicated at that time.
