What Causes Vaginal Spotting, Abdominal Pain And Painful Urination?
Question: I am a 65 year old female in good health, and on no medications. In late July, had vaginal spotting and no other symptoms. Went to GYN and went straight to endometrial biopsy and transvaginal sonogram. Biopsy came back negative. Sonogram showed decent size polyp. M.D. Suggested D& C in near future. At that moment, had no other symptoms. A few days later, started having lower abdominal cramping, and painful urination, both before, during, AND after. Called M.D. And he prescribed Macrobid, for 5 days, 100 mg, twice a day. Started that on Aug. 1. Finished Aug. 6. All was good for awhile. Now, today, Aug. 17, symptoms of abdominal pain and VERY painful urination ( before, during, AND after) are back, and worse than before. No bleeding, but all of the other symptoms I mentioned. No fever. Note: No urine test or lab culture has been done,. I guess that was because the only symptom I had, when in the office, was the bleeding. Note: the bleeding was like a very light menstrual period that got lighter and lighter and stopped.
Brief Answer:
urinary tract infection or kidney stones
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
We can clearly suspect urinary tract infection or kidney stones in your case. For which you need to undergo urinalysis and ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis. I just need one clarification from your query so that I can answer correctly.
You mentioned that- Note: No urine test or lab culture has been done.
Are you talking about July out patient visit or have you visited again on August recently?
Awaiting reply.

No urinalysis was done in July.....I am guessing because the UTI symptoms were not there at that moment......only the bleeding. I would think that I need to have an office visit and have the urinalysis. Also, do you think it should be cultured, to see EXACTLY what bacteria we may be dealing with?
Brief Answer:
Yes, you need urinalysis as early as possible.
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for the reply.
Yes, you need urinalysis as early as possible. And you also need urine culture, if we find any pus cells(which suggest infection) in urinalysis, so that appropriate antibiotic can be selected.
Take care!
