What Causes Visible Veins In Armpit When Diagnosed With First Rib Osteochondroma?
Question: My 17 year old daughter has veins showing in her left arm pit which just recently occurred. When she moves her arm back, she feels a lack of circulation in that arm. When she was 12 years old she was diagnosed with an osteochondroma of the first rib. Due to pressure from the tumor, she formed a blood clot in her upper arm. The first rib was removed. Should we be concerned?

Dilated veins indicate some slowness in blood flow due to block. Or even increased blood flow may result in to dilatation. Most of the times these are temporary occurrence. It can be due to infections, muscle strain, allergic reaction to some allergen like insect bite or local trauma. If none of the above is there, then there is possibility of a problem related to earlier surgery for osteochondroma.
I would advise you to visit a surgeon preferably vascular surgeon for clinical examination and blood flow study. Based on the findings treatment can be planned.
