What Causes Vomiting, Nausea And Abdominal Pain In An Elderly Person?

Question: I am a 61 year old female. I was treated for H. pylori a few months ago. I have been experiencing pain in my abdomen just above my belly button and nausea (not vomiting). The pain is like a cramping. It has been coming and going for about 2 weeks. My internist cannot see me for 2 weeks. Is this something I should go to the ER for?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
How was the H.Pylori diagnosed? Did you have an endoscopy or was it diagnosed with a breath test? Did you have a breath test or stool test after treatment to ensure eradication of the bacteria.
The abdominal pain is likely to be due to acid peptic disease for which H.Pylori along with worry and spicy/ acidic foods are causes. If you have Prilosec, take 40 mg now. Don't take Maalox at the same time. Maalox can be taken after 1 hour if needed.
If the pain is excruciating and is not getting better, then it may be good to go to the ER to exclude any complications.
Do get back to me if you have further queries.

I was diagnosed after an endoscopy. My physician ordered a follow-up stool test, which I took to the lab on 3/10. I haven't heard the results yet. Do patients sometimes need another round of antibiotics to kill the bacteria from the H. Pylori?
Thank you!
Thank you!
Brief Answer:
Welcome, yes sometimes.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the reply.
Most people require only one course of the triple regimen. Sometimes especially if the bacterial load is high or there are diseases like diabetes which decreases one's immunity, people would require more courses.
Best wishes,
