What Causes Weakness In The Left Arm And Leg?
Question: Hi, I have been having weakness in my left arm and leg, it only lasts about 1 minutes. Went to the hospital today they did a cardio gram but all was good. Can you explain what could be causing this problem
Brief Answer:
Neurologist to consult- next step
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concern.
Weakness you feel on your left side (arm and leg) that lasts for 1 min could be due to various reasons:
- ischemic problems of the brain
- peripheral issues related to blood supply and neurological issues
- arthritis
Apart cardio exam, I'd suggest a neurological examination by neurologist. EMG is also recommended.
Meanwhile, until you see neurologist, I advise to monitor your blood pressure and sugar levels especially when you have this weakness episode.
Hope this helps.

what does that mean ischemic problem to the brain? and what is an EMG
Also a couple of days ago I had a strange feeling on the side of my head and my ear seemed like it was asleep, just like a freezing coming out of it. Everything seems to be on my left side, was wondering if it could be bad circulation or blockage somewhere

Brief Answer:
Circulation problems to the brain....
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Ischemic problem to the brain means circulation problems to the brain.
If these are excluded, ENT examination is suggested to rule out inner ear and Eustachian tube dysfunction.
However, I'm still thinking about circulation problems to the brain. Can discuss further with neurologist and run ctscan of the head and/or MRI.
Hope this helps.

What is an ENT examination? I ma asking all kinds because i have claustophobia and the thought of things like MRI make me think of small places and when I don't know what to expect from an exam just kinds of make me nervous . If it's circulation problems to the brain how is this treated?
Brief Answer:
Explained below...
Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,
ENT examination means e-ear; n-nose; t-throat examination carried out by ENT specialist to rule out inner ear issues.
Even in this case, MRI is required to exclude circulatory problems in your brain and possible inner ear issues too.
Depending on the problem, we can give the treatment. If ischemia or blood vessels blockage, blood thinning drugs are recommended.
I understand you have claustrophobia, but, when MRI is a must, you should carry it out. However, I advise to consult with neurologist first and discuss with him/her my options.
Hope this answered your queries.
