What Causes Wheezing After Taking Mobic?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: I am currently taking mobic for severe arthritis. It has really helped. The problems that I have had with it is that it is aggravating my asthma causing more weazing. Also my liver enzymes and blood sugar that were normal have gone through the roof. Will Celebrex do the same?

Brief Answer:
Yes it could be due to mobic.

Detailed Answer:

Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

Yes, worsening of your asthma could be due to Mobic that you are taking. Its a pain killer belonging to Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs category. These are known to worsen asthma or may even cause asthma in a susceptible person. It may also cause derangement of liver enzymes though its not very common. Whether it worsens the blood sugar control in a diabetic is not very clear. Celebrex may also do exactly the same.

Since you have severe arthritis and you need to take pain killers, you may consult your doctor for a different pain killer which does not belong to above category.

For your asthma control you may take singular and levo cetirizine combination and instead of flovent inhaler, you may try symbicort inhaler or advair diskus which may give a better control.

Can you give me some possibilities of alternatives for my arthritis pain? I really don't want to alter my asthma meds since we have already tried it and it hasn't worked. Is it possible that celebrex won't cause the same problems as mobic?

Brief Answer:
Pl contact your PCP for alternate pain killers.

Detailed Answer:

As I have said that its better that you consult your doctor who is treating you for arthritis for alternate pain killer medicine. Most of the pain killers may aggravate asthma though every person may react differently and not all have aggravation of their asthma symptoms with all pain killers. So under constant care of your treating physician you may try other pain killers.

Paracetamol is one drug which is not known to worsen asthma. However individual allergies are also known to it.

The inhaler mentioned by me gives better control of asthma. So you may try it and you may be able to take your pain killers as well.

Take care.
