What Causes Yellow Urine While On Allopurinol And Lisinopril?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Nov 2017
Question: I'm a 75 year old male, 197 lbs 5'11" This morning I noticed my urine was bright yellow with red that doesn't look like blood but has a higher specific gravity. I have been taking allopurinol, 100mg daily since mid-June and that's the only change in my meds. I take Xarelto for my AFib, and terazosin, hydrocholorothiazide, atenolol, Lisinopril and amlodipine for blood pressure and finasteride for BPH. The allopurinol is being tried because I have kidney stones which have not changed in several years. I plan to speak with my urologist in the morning

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that both Xarelto and allopurinol can cause urinary bleeding.

The kidney stones are also a common cause of blood in the urine.

For this reason, I would recommend performing a urine analysis and a urinary tract ultrasound.

A complete blood count to check for anemia is necessary too.

If the bleeding persists, I would recommend first stop taking allopurinol.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
