What Clinical Laboratory Tests Are Done For Patients With Chronic Sinus Infection?

Question: I have had a virus for 17 days swollen glands coming and going persistent dry cough with gagging, a sinus infection as well. I believe my immunity is really non existent. I've had mononucleosis in the last 2 yrs previous to this when I was 17 due to shocking tonsillitis. I had them removed and had a septic infection from my tonsils post surgery which took 12 mths to really get better. I'm intolerant to most antibiotics. I saw dr recently for constant nausea after being referred to a nutritionist have fructose intolerance and gluten intolerance. Have had white blood cell tests done liver and kidneys and cholesterol done. Scan showed mild fatty liver have now lost 5 kg. I catch everything my immune system is not good what can I ask for testing wise what type of specialist should I see. I'm over being sick and want to be healthy!

I understand your concern and it must be annoying to get infections frequently. Here are some of the tests we order in someone who has recurrent infections

1. Blood sugar
2. Complete blood count including total count, neutrophils, lymphocytes, etc
3. C3, C4 complement levels
4. CD4 levels
5. HIV ( in high risk or people with history of exposure)

You must first see an internal medicine specialist followed by infectious disease specialist. Take precautions not to catch the infections like washing hands frequently, eating hygienic food and drinking clean water.

Thanks for getting back to me I've done all of those things I eat healthily, I am very hygienic and have had some preliminary blood work done I'm not HIV! I'm really after what type of specialist would you suggest to ask for a referral to. I'm thinking an immunologist or gastroenterologist. I really am concerne about my lack of immunity. I understand I need to get a referral from my GP. I'm keen to get what ever testing scans it takes to get better. Thanks for your advice.

I suggest you to meet an infectious disease specialist for this. I dont think approaching an immunologist would be ideal at this point. Infectious disease specialist also have knowledge on why someone would get recurrent infections. Speak to your GP about my recommendation as well.
