Question: Hi,

My father is diagnosed with cataract and cataract surgery has been suggested.
My father is a diabetic but it is under control. He is regularly takes medicines to keep it under control.

Can there be any complications or issues that might arise because of him being diabetic?
Is there any precautions or treatment to be taken before or during surgery?

Brief Answer:
no complications

Detailed Answer:
Hi nice to hear from you
As such diabetes if under control doesn't cause any complications.
As long as the blood and urine sugar levels are under control your father can undergo cataract surgery.
But prior detailed fundus examination is must to look out for changes of diabetic retinopathy if any.
And if any such changes are there; your father has to be treated for them first with laser photocoagulations if needed.
Early stages of diabetic retinopathy don't need active interventions though; which can be made out only after fundus testing.
For active and fast healing following surgery too the sugar levels must be always under control.
