What Do Elevated Calcium Levels In Bloodwork Indicate?
Question: Hi. I am 9 weeks pregnant and just diagnosed with elevated calcium levels in my bloodwork. I read this can be hyper parathyroidism which is dangerous to the baby. What is my chance of having a miscarriage right now? I want to get this treated ASAP. I am seeing a hematologist tomorrow but can't sleep tonight because I am worried I will miscarry before I can get this condition treated.

I will try to upload the test results, but I can tell you right now that my calcium level was 10.6. My OB/GYn said it was borderline. I don't know how serious this is. I can't get to a scanner to scan the lab papers right now.

The calcium levels are just borderline.
First and foremost it makes sense to get the levels rechecked.
Common lab errors and factors such as dehydration,fasting etc can lead to spurious results.
To diagnose hyperparathyroidism, elevated parathormone levels are a must, and you must have that done if repeat testing shows persistently raised levels.
In most cases the condition remains stable in pregnancy and adverse fetal outcomes are seen only where calcium levels are grossly out of control.
so do not worry about miscarrying.
