Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common causes for swelling of the lower aspect of the face would be: (1) trauma to the face or mouth, this can occur with insect bite or other form of trauma

(2)bacterial infection of the gums or mouth. There may be a source of tenderness in the mouth.

(3)viral infection such as cold sores, which are very common can may start in this way

(4)blockage of a duct of the parotid gland or infection of the parotid can also cause swelling but this would usually involve the lower aspect of the jaw towards the back

The use of an anti inflammatory pain medication such as naproxen or ibuprofen would help along with a cold compress to the area.
The anti inflammatory would help even though there is no pain, they would reduce the body's inflammatory's response

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I have never had a cold sore. I've touched every part of my face, mouth that seems involved but there is no tender spot or pain/soreness or even a tiny red mark. The swelling has gone down some except for the upper lip. It all feels a bit like novicane from a dental procedure. I do not have any dental issues and had my regular check up about a month ago. Could a bug bite cause this type of reaction and not leave a mark or some type of pain?
