What Do My CT Scan Test Results Indicate?

Question: my mum was admitted to hospital on 12th February 2016 with left side abdominal pain, x-ray shown leakage, had ct scan shown small hole in large colon, given intravenous drip of antibiotics, but then taken really poorly with fluid on her lungs also heart attack sent to critical care where we waited for them to stabilise her, she has been put on surgical ward and given paracetamol drip, she has not opened her bowels and been given codeine she now feels nauseous and still has pain she was a relatively healthy person with blood pressure taking lisinaprol bisopralol paracetamol and tramadol for arthritis she is 82yrs and a strong person, pain and infection in bowel stopping heart investigations which is not solving bowel problem what would you suggest as pain not going and now constipated and nauseous, is this looking toward an emergency operation.
Brief Answer:
Yes
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This is obviouspy perforated diverticulitis or perforated colon tumor. this is surgical emergency and it can't be treated with antibiotics or conservatively if there is evidence of leaking content outside the bowel. delay can only worsen her general health including heart function. a good anesthesiologist should evaluate her condition and surgery should be performed if there is deteriorating condition. heart and lung function can be monitored and improved during anesthesia and postoperatively.
Wish you good health.
Regards
