What Do My Echo Test Reports Indicate?
My father in law is 55 years old, he recently went for routine 2D Echo and attached are the reports, current doctor whom we consulted has prescribed below tablets each for 30 Days.
1. Please let me know if there is any problem according to the reports. Should we go for Angiogram?
2. Are all the 6 tablets required as he is feeling very tired and weak after taking those tablets. Aren't 6 tablets a day too much for the patient.
Below are the tablets
1. NITROLONG 2.6MG TAB
2. NOVASTAT CV 10MG TAB
3. GUNTAKAL 50MG TAB
4. FRUSELAC TAB
5. STARPRESS XL 25 TAB
6. E COD PLUS CAP
Please let me know if you require any other reports.
Thanks in Advance
No attachments with the query . Do upload all reports done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
I am Dr. Mody and I would be addressing your concern.
I went through the history you have provided and the medication list .
The medication is a complete treatment for heart ailment particularly when the pumping is on the lower side .
2 things I would wish to know ,
Was he completely asymptomatic as you said it was a routine check up , or is he having some symptoms like breathlessness on climbing stairs , some swelling in the legs particularly when the day progresses and since how long .
There is no attachments with your query , so if you can upload the Echo cardiography report and other investigation I would be able to guide you better.
I am in view of further evaluation before starting all the medication before these are life long medications and they have their own side effects .
Yes the weakness can be explained by the medicines , but at the same time we have to weigh the risk benefit ratio , so a complete evaluation is better.

Dr Priyank Mody
He has breathlessness only when is works in the farm or climbs stairs.
Please let me know if the are any abnormalities in the report, if so how severe is this. And should we go for Angiogram
And does he has to take all the prescribes 6 tablets mentioned before?
The echo shows mild decrease in the pumping of the heart
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I went through the attached report od echocardiography. Here it mentions that the pumping of the heart is mildly decreased and is around 45 % , ( nomral should be more than 60 %) . And it's generalised so I cannot pin point that the reason for same is a block in the heart artery .
However in such cases it's worthwhile doing an angiography to know the reason for the same, and if reversible treat it , but there is a fair chance that it may be nomral or there are non critical blockages and than it should be managed medically .
As I have mentioned because this warrants life long treatment , it's better to know the cause , rather than blindly treating symptoms.
Echocardiography alone would not be the best way to take a treatment decision ,Rather ecg , clinical symptoms, examination finding should be considered in planning furthur action.
Of all the medication, cod fish oil is a supplement and can be avoided as there are no trials to prove it's role to decrease pill burden.
Guntakal might be a spell error and if possible do send the content of the same .
It's more complex pathology and can be managed with medicine by adequate titration , this forum wouldn't be the best to treat the same . So do follow up with your cardiologist and he will help you the same .
However for your reassurance there there is nothing urgent or serious , but yes you should take the medicine ands prescribed for maximum benefit .
Lastly let me know if any clarification is needed and I would be happy to help .
