Brief Answer:
Such a variation in the reported sizes can occur

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Let me tell you that when a mass develops somewhere, it is not typically of spherical shape. The length (diameter) is therefore not the same in all the axes (plural of axis). The reported length therefore can vary with the axis chosen. Additionally, the measurement in an ultrasonogram or CT depends on the boundary marked by the person who carries out the procedure. The marking of the boundaries could vary slightly depending upon whether the markings are placed slightly inward or slightly on the outer side.
Another thing that could have occurred is that the size of the mass has increased rapidly in the meantime.
No characteristics refers to the fact that it is not cystic and that the echotexture is not different from the rest of the liver.

Let me know if I could help further.

I recently got a CT scan and in the report it states "there is a mass in the lateral segment of the lobe of the liver deforming the contour of the capsule". can you please explain what this means.

Brief Answer:
Does not seem to be a good sign

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The report indicates that there is a tumor formation in the liver. The fact that the growth is deforming the contour of the capsule, is not a good sign and could be indicative of malignancy. However, we should not jump to conclusions and confirmation should be done by histopathology from a biopsy sample obtained by removing the mass.
