What Do Recurring Lumps Indicate After A Lipoma Removal Procedure Via Punch Biopsy?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Oct 2017
Question: I had what was suspected to be a lipoma removed via punch biopsy in Dec and it turned out to be an infected hair follicle. The site became infected but healed after a round of antibiotics. The lump has returned on the same site. Does that seem possible?

Brief Answer:
Regarding a lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I am Dr. Kakkar (Dermatologist). I have gone through your query and I have noted your concern.

It is rare for a lipoma to recur after removal. However, it is possible that some part of it was left behind or pethaps it was not a lipoma.
Do you have an image?Kindly upload in "Reports Section" Clinically a lipoma is a soft lesion and when pressed it slips under the finger. How was the diagnosis confirmed prior to surgery? The diagnosis of a lipoma is usually confirmed by a Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC).
