What Do Red Bumps On The Back Of The Neck Indicate?
may be an evolving abscess
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
It is possible that it is an evolving abscess.
In the initial stages of abscess development, the 'lump' is firm. As it evolves, it becomes softer and there may be discharge, this can take a few days.
In some cases , most of the pus present can come out on its own but in many cases, a simple incision at the doctor's office is needed to make sure that all of the pus is removed.
If a small amount remains, it can cause the abscess to re collect.
Antibiotics would also be helpful.
If this is not an option at this time, then you can consider using a paste such as magnesium sulphate paste. This paste, when applied , helps pus or any discharge present in a lump, to come out.
A warm compress to the area, 2 to 3 times daily for 10 to 15 mins, would also help with resolution.
An anti inflammatory pain killer such as ibuprofen, voltaren or naproxen would help with any discomfort
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
