Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, I have a red patch on my tongue with little white dot in the middle, it hurts like burning when I touch it. I have dental braces, and I've shown this to my dentist, he said, he will remove my braces next month and if it doesn't go away, he will refer me to a specialist. Should I be worried?

Seem to be a pimple or small boil but nothing to be worried.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic.

I have seen the picture you uploaded and from that,it seems to be a pimple or small boil but nothing to be worried.

It can be managed easily with some precautions and medications.

Take vitamin b complex with folic acid daily.

Maintain good oral hygiene and take mouth wash with antiseptic solution like chlorhexidine.

Take warm salt water gargles will also be helpful.

If this patch or bump is more painful then you can take local pain killer gel like zytee gel or dento gel.

Avoid eating foods that are too fatty, spicy, sour, hot or sweetened.

Small course of antibiotic like cefadroxyl will also be helpful if it hurts too much or more patches or bumps starts appearing.

I would expect that it will start subsiding within 3 or 4 days or maximum up to 7 days with above treatment.

In case,it remains for more than 7 days then ENT specialist consultation would be advisable.

So,no need to be worried and if any more question then feel free to ask me.

Regards,
