What Do The Attached Details About The Surgery For Torn Discoid Lateral Meniscus Indicate?
Question: Hi Doc,
My mother (aged 55) had a surgery for Torn discoid lateral meniscus and Osteochondritis dissecans and synovial plica for the right knee on 27th Sept 2014. Please find details about the surgery in the attached Discharge summary. Also attached scans taken before the surgery. She has taken Cartigen Forte tablets for 3 months post surgery. She is now doing her routine exercise using 3 kilo weights on the effected legs and also walks for 30 mins daily, but she is still not able to retract her knee completely and also she feels weakness in her legs after walking a little. She is very concerned about the time taken to recover completely to perform her daily activities. Usually how much time it takes to recover completely? She is non diabetic. Is the weakness in the legs after walking a little normal?

I have gone through your question in detail including discharge summary and MRI report and understand your concern.
She was operated on27.09.2014. Procedure done was Videoarthroscopy, subtotal lateral menisectomy, synovial plica resection and abrasion chondroplasty of right knee. I think in such operation 3 months is usual recovery time to performing usually daily activity. Usually 3 months time is expected time of completely healing.Her weakness in her legs after walking a little may not be related to this operation . You should look for other causes for it . One important cause is deficiency of vitamins and trace elements specially vitamin D3 deficiency . You can get her vitamin D3 and vitamin B 12 to know the cause and supplement them if found low.
