What Do These TSH And Free T4 Levels During Third Trimester Indicate?
Baby will be safe if SCH is controlled by medicine.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:
1) According to the XXXXXXX Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the NORMAL range for TSH 3rd generation is between 0.3 - 3.0 mIU/L. Your level is quite HIGH and it indicates HYPOTHYROID state. Free T4 level is almost in NORMAL range.
It is basically a state of Sub-clinical hypothyroidism (SCH), when the TSH is high but the T4 level is in the normal range. Baby will be SAFE if it is controlled by given medicine.
2) Thyroxine is very essential for fetal brain development and intellectual. For that reason, early diagnosis of hypothyroid state is much needed (possibly soon after confirmation of pregnancy).
Common complications are high BP, postpartum hemorrhage, premature birth, low birth weight (LBW) and increased neonatal respiratory distress. CRETINISM (gross reduction of IQ) occurs in very severe iodine deficiency state (rare event).
3) My suggestion: You should continue THYRONORM medicine as prescribed by your doctor to improve thyroid state, mental health of your baby and avoid complications.
Hope I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.
