Question: My X-ray results follow. I visited with a nurse practitioner about knee pain and she ordered X-rays. She then ordered a nuclear bone scan but all she said what that there was a suspicious area that needed more examination. I'm a 49 year old male and I want to know how worried should I be about this. I only have pain in the knee if a kneel down on it, and then only if I apply pressure when kneeling to the outer left side of the left knee.

CLINICIAN'S HISTORY: knee pain

ADDITIONAL CLINICAL INDICATIONS: Pain of left lateral patella for 3
weeks with no known injury. No prior injury to left knee.

COMPARISON STUDIES: None.

TECHNIQUE: Weightbearing frontal, lateral, and patellar views of the
left knee are performed.

FINDINGS: The study demonstrates no acute fractures or dislocations.
Joint spaces appear maintained on the weightbearing frontal view. No
chondrocalcinosis is seen in the menisci. No plain radiographic
evidence of a joint effusion is identified. There is a sclerotic
density in the distal femoral metaphysis. The margins are not sharply
circumscribed. The lesion is eccentric within the medullary cavity. I
do not appreciate overlying periosteal reaction. No other sclerotic
densities are seen.

IMPRESSIONS:

1. No fractures or radiographically significant degenerative changes
appreciated in the left knee.

2. Indeterminate sclerotic lesion in the distal femur. Clinical
correlation with any history, particularly a history of primary
neoplasms with a tendency to cause sclerotic bony metastases, would be
recommended. Nuclear medicine bone scan could be obtained to see if
the area is active.
