First trimester abortions are usually due to chromosomal anomalies in the fetus and it is usually the nature's way to abort these abnormal fetuses.
1. It is not due to any problem in the sperm or ovaries.
2.Certain investigations should be done to determine the cause of abortion:
- Thyroid profile
- Blood sugar fasting and post prandial levels
-Antiphospholipid antibody profile
However, these investigations are done usually after two or more recurrent miscarriages. After one miscarriage, they are not advised.
Sheshould take folic acid tablet daily from at least2 months prior to planning conception and during first trimester of pregnancy.It reduces the risk of spontaneous abortion and risk of congenital anomalies in the fetus.
