What Do These Tumor Markers Post Stage 3 Colon Cancer Treatment Indicate?
Question: Hi, my mother had a stage III colon cancer discovered in XXXXXXX this year She had radio and chemo therapy before surgery and then 6 more chemo therapy sessions (in total, 6 months of chemo treatment). On her last blood test (1 and a half month after finishing chemo) the tumor markers are in the normal range, while the liver enzymes, alkalyne phosphatase is 119, while the GGT is 101; while waiting for CT and RMI should be concerned? Many thanks!
Brief Answer:
Nothing to woory
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Since your mother is suffering from stage 3 colon cancer and she has finished her treatment and now her tumor markers are in the normal range you do not need to worry.
Slight increase in liver enzymes can occur due to other causes and is not due to cancer.

I was asking especially since I've saw a statistic showing that 90% of the patients showing an elevated GGT count get metastasis, and of course this got me worried. her GGT is 101 and a normal one should be at least 36. until waiting for the CT and RMI, should we stay calm? What can she do to decrease this GGT? Many thanks
Brief Answer:
fruits and vegetable lower GGT
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Increase in GGT can occur due to ingestion of alcoholic beverages.
It can also occur due to medicines such as carbamazepine, cimetidine, furosemide, heparin and phenobarbital.
In liver metastasis GGT increases to 10 times of upper limit of normal and in your mothers case it is not that high.
Eating fruits and vegetable may help lower her GGT level.
Specifically, fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C, fiber, beta-carotene and folate, such as carrots, romaine lettuce, spinach, sweet potatoes, apricots, tomatoes, and pumpkin, can lower her GGT serum level and provide her body with powerful antioxidants.
