What Do Unexplained Bruises On The Arm And Swollen Lump On The Hand Indicate?

Question: Hi, I have unexplained bruises on my arm and my hand has a swollen lump on the top of it, meaning my whole hand isn't swollen. A few days ago, I had unexplained itchiness pretty much all over my body. I took a Clariten and it went away. The swelling on my hand makes it painful to use my hand and my wrist (for some reason).

Brief Answer:
Rule out bleeding/coagulation disorders

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the query at HealthcareMagic.
I've reviewed the images.

Unexplained appearance of bruises, joint pain and swelling require further evaluation for bleeding and coagulation disorders .

Taking medications that increase bleeding like aspirin, warfarin etc. can cause similar symptoms.
Investigations including bleeding time, clotting time, complete blood count, liver function tests, vitamin K levels are required to determine the cause. Further investigations may also be warranted depending on these initial results

I'd recommend to consult primary care physician to undergo further evaluation and management.
Meanwhile, please discontinue the Ibuprofen as it can cause increased bleeding. You can take Tylenol instead (if not allergic /no history of liver disorders) for pain.

Hope I was able to answer your question
Please feel free to address any more concerns

What do you mean by "bleeding"? Is that what you're calling the bruises?

Brief Answer:
Bleeding disorders are problems with normal blood clotting mechanism

Detailed Answer:
Thankyou for addressing your question and I apologize if I didn't make myself clear in the above answer.

Bleeding disorders are conditions where the blood clotting system is not functioning properly.
Platelets (cells in blood) along with endothelial lining (which is the inner lining of blood vessels ) function together to help efficient clotting of blood.Any disruption in this mechanism can result in a bleeding disorder, which can manifest itself as bruises

Coagulation disorders are another class of disorders that affect the normal blood clotting mechanism. It occurs due to coagulation factor deficiency in blood which also present with bruises, joint pain and swelling (due to bleeding into joints)

Hope I was able to answer you
