What Does "8mm Subpleural Cavitary Lesion Within The Right Upper Lobe Posteriorly" Mean?
Question: What does "8mm subpleural cavitary lesion within the right upper lobe posteriorly with a mildly tinckened wall" mean.
Brief Answer:
do you have any respiratory problems?
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
This means that there is a small cavity in your right lung in the upper lobe of it.
This lesion can be anything from a bulla or a cyst or old lesion of a previous disease or even an degenerative cyst.
But to come to a diagnosis you will need a contrast ct scan for better characterization of the same.
But in my opinion such lesions at your age is common and if you don't have any other similar lesions or any lymph node enlargement or any respiratory problem then you need not worry about it.
Hope i have been helpful.

I have a 9.2cm mass on my right kidney (I'm scheduled for surgery on 7/11/14). I had a xray/ct scan and a xray/ neculear test.
here is the Report on the cat scan
" Chest wall/Mediastinum: No significate axillary or hilar lymphadenopathy is identified. Several mildly prominent mediastinal lymph nodes are identified with the largest measuring approximately 7mm in the short axis diameter, nonspecific. The pericardium is normal in thickness. The heard is upper limits of normal size (I had a CABG x4 done Nov 26th 2013). Tje tjpracoc aprta de,pmstrates atherosclerotic calcification without aneurysmal dilation. Postsurgical changes from previous mediam sternotoyare seen.
Parenchyma: A 3 mm noncalcified right upper lobe nodule is identified (image18). A 8mm Subpleural cavitary lesion is evident within the right upper lobe posteriorly (image 17) with a mildly tinckened wall. A 3 mm noncalcified left upper lobe nodule is also identified (image 26). Lingular atelectasis is seen. No pneumothorax. No Pleural effusions.
Incidental scans through the upper adbome demonstrate a small hiatal hernia. A approximately 10 x 9 cm heterogeneous solid mass is partially imaged within the upper pole of the right kidney.
Impression:1. 8mm subpleural cavitary lesion within the right upper lobe posteriorly with a mildly thickened wall. 2. small noncalcified bilateral pulmonary nodes, Recomment followup chest CT in 6 months for further evaluation 3. Several mildly prominent mediastinal lymph nodes, nonspecific. 4. 10 x 9 cm heterogeneous solid mass partially imaged within the right kidney

Brief Answer:
Its nothing to be worried about
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your CT scan of the chest is fairly normal and you need not worry about it. That is mostly a degenerative cyst which is common at this age.
Its not a metastasis from your kidney mass, as mets are usually solid and this is a cavity.
So dont worry about it. Go ahead with your surgery.
Get well soon.
