What Does CMV IgG Positive With IgM Negative Indicate?
Question: Question for Pediatrician
My son is aged 3.5 months.... I just tested him, and he is CMV igG positive and CMV IgM negative... I had given cord stored to Lifecell, and they had given me my i.e. maternal blood report, which also said the same thing i.e. CMV IgG positive and CMV igM negative. I just came through all these things right now, and hence got my son tested immediately. Now I am worried whether CMV IgG positive would affect him later during his development period. Is this curable/treated?...till now he has normal growth....

IgG positive with igm negative means your baby is not having active infection. Infact it means he is protected against cmv infection.
Ig G is transmitted from mother to baby.
It is protective.

But what in case if it would have been transmitted during pregnancy. I don't know whether I was CMV Igg before pregnancy or during pregnancy. How come this can be known..I have read that asymptomatic infants develop hearing loss, mental retardation etc from CMV....at later stage...Is this possible in my kid?..that he has probability of developing these conditions in later stage of his development. Also, if yes, are these treatable?.
