What Does MRI Showing Myomatous Uterus Indicate?
Question: I am 49. MRI noted markedly myomatous uterus. The endometrial canal and junctional zone are completely obliterated by heterogeneous signal and enhancement of the myomas. The ovaries are not clearly identified. Follow up as indicated. What does follow up as indicated mean if the ovaries are not identified? An ultrasound was completed prior to MRI and ovaries were not visable.
Brief Answer:
it means examination required along with MRI
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
Your MRI is suggestive of highly distorted uterine cavity due fibroid also called as myomas.
The non identification of ovaries is due to overlapping of my on a shadows with the shadows of fibroids.
Follow up as indicated is written so as to tell the treating doctor that next step in the management of the patient should be based on this report along with the clinical findings inferred after the examination of the patient.
I hope I gave answered your question and in case you have any queries regarding this I will be happy to help.

Would other diagnostic tests then be required prior to scheduling any surgeries if the ovaries have not been identified.
Brief Answer:
No need of any other imaging test
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, there is no need of any imaging other test before surgery.
At the time of surgery if the ovaries are found to be normal then they will be left inside the body but in case they are adherent to the uterus or fibroids or are diseased then they have to be removed along with uterus.
Wish you all the best for surgery.
Take care.
