What Does A High Serum Cholesterol Level Indicate?

Question: I recently had an ultrasound to check for plaque in my arteries. Results were there is no plaque buildup. However, I do have a high serum cholesterol reading of 269. Should I be taking a medication for this even if there is no buildup?
