What Does A Yellow And White Vaginal Discharge During Pregnancy Indicate?

Question: Hi there, I'm 11weeks pregnant. Had some old blood discharge last week and had an u/s which showed a healthy baby and heart beat. It went away, until yesterday it came back for only a little along with yellow discharge with white. Just wondering if this is normal or if I should go to the ED.
Brief Answer:
There is no need to go to the ED now.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic. I am Dr Ramadevi Wani.
I appreciate your concerns.
Ultrasound showing a healthy baby with heart beat is a good sign.
I don't anticipate any problem with this second episode of slight bleeding. There is no need to go to the ER now. Just take rest. Avoid sexual intercourse.
If you develop abdominal pain or increased bleeding per vagina then you need to go the ER. I also advise you to consult your obstetrician and take progesterone support for two weeks.
I hope this helps. If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Thank you for alleviating the fear of needing to go to the ED. Just a follow up question, is it safe to say the yellowish discharge is "normal" with stringy white material in it ?
Brief Answer:
Yellowish because of mixing with blood. Details below.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
A little bit of white discharge is common in pregnancy. This mixed with serum ( of blood) can appear a bit yellowish.
But if this yellowish discharge is persistent or associated with bad smell/itching , then it is not normal. It suggests infection and you must consult obstetrician.
I hope this helps. I will be happy to answer any further concerns
