What Does Diastolic Reading Of 49 And Systolic Of 128 Indicate?
I walk 30 minutes a day.......
reading is ok
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
As persons age, there is thickening and stiffening of the arteries which affects the ability of the blood vessels to contract thereby affecting blood pressure.
This is the reason that the diastoic readings tend to be a lot lower than they would have been previously and also the reason some older persons have what it called systolic hypertension (the systolic high but the diastolic normal)
Your reading would be considered ok.
In terms of hypertension or high blood pressure:
The most recent JNC guidelines (high blood pressure guidelines for US and other areas) that were published in 2014, have changed to recommendations for persons over the age of 60.
These new guidelines suggest that treatment for high blood pressure in your age group (over 60) should be delayed till the BP reaches 150/90.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
Is there a specific vitamin to take that might help heighten the diastolic pressure to be above 049?
Sometimes while walking uphill I feel a little short of breath (or doing stairs) does this have anything to do with the low reading of the diastolic number?
Would you suggest any cardio exercises that might help me? Thasnks
my pulse was 63.........any comment? Thanks
Thank you XXXXXXX
that is good exercise
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the late reply
Yes, walking 30 minutes a day is fine
The recommendation is at least 150 minutes a week so at 30 minutes a day you would meet this and more.
Exercise can either be strength training or cardio.Walking would be considered cardio exercise. Other types would be swimming, jogging, aerobic videos, cycling.
There is no vitamin that works specifically on either the diastolic or systolic blood pressure but using foods and supplements with omega 3 are helpful for heart health.
Any shortness of breath that you experience is not directly related to your diastolic blood pressure. The diastolic pressure is the pressure during relaxation of the heart.
If you are experiencing shortness of breath, your doctor may want to consider having heart tests done (such as ECG and echo) to make sure that the heart is working properly.
There is a a type of heart failure called diastolic heart failure where the heart is unable to relax properly and carry out its normal function but this would be associated with additional signs and symptoms.
Your pulse is good. The normal range is 60 to 100 , so yours is within normal range
