What Does Difficulty In Sleeping While On Montelukast Indicate?

Question: I have been taking Montelukast sod 10 mg for about 3 weeks. I have always been a good sleeper and now all of a sudden I can't sleep. I might go 24 hours without sleep and then sleep for two hours. Today I started crying for no reason at all and everything seems to bring on the water works. I am not normally a tearful person. Is it the drug?

Hallucinations, altered sleep, insomnia, irritability, restlessness are common side effects reported with montelukast use. You can stop the medication to see for improvement or you can take an additional alprazolam for help with sleep.
