What Does Dry Scaly Skin And Fluid Retention In Lower Legs Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 5 Apr 2014
Question: Hi. I am currently recovering from a broken leg. I think I have done something yesterday to aggravate the problem, but will address that separately. I get inflammation, dry scaly skin, and fluid retention in lower legs, i think maybe a kidney or a liver problem, which I intend to have investigated. However i would also love to receive advice from the doctors here. Possibly their is cirrosis of the liver or the liver protein albumin is not being produced. I get low in sodium, urea, uric acid and creatinine, iron and protein, which suggests too that the kidney is not functioning well. I would appreciate any advice as to how I can approach the problems mentioned above XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: Kindly provide the results of lab tests you did... Detailed Answer: Hi dear XXXX I have gone through your query carefully and understood your concerns. Before running into final conclusions, can you please provide the results of the tests you did? That can help me analyze your case better! The fluid retention in the legs you are reporting (or swollen legs) might be related to: - staying too long without movement due to recovery time from broken legs - kidney/liver problems To determine the right cause, further investigations should be carried out: - urine analysis - blood work - liver/kidney function tests - re-evaluation of broken legs - abdominal ultrasound (to check the liver, kidney, and other internal organs). Could you please provide the medications/supplements you are currently taking? Thank you! Dr.Albana

Dear Dr Albana I dont have a scanner so cant upload the results of tests I recently had. Briefly, sodium chloride and carbonate low, 127. Low urea, uric acid, creatinine. Low protein and iron. Liver function appears normal, so does blood sugar. Thyroid TSH appears OK B12 at low end of scale red blood platelets seem to be enlarged, as if swollen with water. Looks like white blood count is a bit low. The fluid retention in right leg has been ocuring since long before I broke my leg. I am going to a doctor in the next week, I will ask for the tests you recommend, including further investigation of liver, kidney, urine, blood. I also wish to have checked adrenal function and adrenal hormones, estrogen, pregosterone, testosterone, which may be related to low immunity, hair loss, inflammation, dry sagging skin and other current issues. Sorry for delay in replying. I do hope you have further insights. Its hard to find a doctor who actually thinks about results of blood tests, they mostly just read them out. Regards XXXXXXX
