What Does " Echogenic Area With A 6mm Cystic Centre" Mean?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: Hi doctor Im surpossidley 4 weeks pregnant but and they have done a HCG test which is only 140. I've done 6 pregnancy tests all come bk positive. They done a ultra scan on me and showed no IU gestation sac 4/40?
In the region of the my left ovary there appears to be a 16mm echogenic area with a 6mm cystic centre? Corpus luteum? Or ectopic? This is what my letter says?
I'm really worried I don't think I am having an ectopic?
I went into hospital cause of cramps and pains in left abdominal.
I passed something that looked like a blood clot? Not getting results from lab until next week?
Still have all the pregnancy symptoms.
I passed what the nurses think as a POC on the ward.
Does any doctor know if I could possibly still be pregnant? As I found out all of this only on 22nd XXXXXXX 2015. So confused? Any suggestions

Brief Answer:
mass unlikely to be gestational sac

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I'm Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf and will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in best possible way. Ectopic pregnancy in ovaries is 1-2% AND there it presents with complex mass or hyperechoic area(decidual reaction) with hypoecoic center(sac cavity).

Fetal heart start to beat by 4th week and can be detected on Pelvic Ultrasound by 5th week. At 4th week pregnancy one is able to easily pick gestational sac.

your symptoms could suspect tumor like mass secreting Ectopic hCG secretion which is causing these symptoms. At this moment, if a patient comes to my clinic then i refer her to a consultant gynecologist for detailed examination and most probably a gynecologist will take laparoscopic biopsy of the mass to confirm the diagnosis.

I would suggest you same thing i.e. get an appointment for a consultant gynecologist at this moment.

Hope i have answered your query. If you have any followup question then i would be happy to answer. If not then dont forget to close the discussion and rate it.

All the very best and wishing you good health.
Thank you
